Running Back to New Fu Run (Great Neck, NY)

When Seth Birdoff, the Admin of the Facebook Group, Great Neck Food And Restaurants, invited me to join him and a few friends for his photoshoot at New Fu Run in Great Neck, he didn’t have to ask twice!  It was a treat to watch him in action and a chance to try many of their great dishes.

New Fun Run is located at 50 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck, NY 11021.  There’s a metered parking lot behind the restaurant (entrance twice around the corner), and also street parking.  Metered parking ends at 6:00 PM, which is perfect timing for dinner.

New Fu Run is the sister of their original restaurant, Fu Run, which we reviewed here.  Fu Run was rated by many reviewers as THE BEST Chinese restaurant in Flushing for many years.  Unfortunately, they closed that location to focus on New Fu Run

I have enjoyed New Fu Run a few times.  Here is the link to the Chinese Quest’s official review of New Fu Run.  Today was going to be special, as Seth pre-arranged a feast of their best dishes.  I couldn’t wait to dig in!

While we gathered, the chef was busy preparing our banquet!

Bring on the food!

Stir-Fried Sliced Beef – This just melts in your mouth!  But beware the burn!  This is cuisine from the Dongbei Province in Northern China.

Dongbei cuisine is a hearty, comforting style of cooking from Northeast China that values substance over subtlety to combat the regional cold. Characterized by bold, rich flavors, it features simmering stews, heavy use of soybean products, preserved ingredients like fermented cabbage, and wheat- or corn-based staples such as steamed buns and dumplings rather than rice.

Crispy Sliced Fish with Chili Sauce – The fish was so light, yet packed with flavor!  Again, that subtle punch is right behind that first taste.  Diner beware, but diner, enjoy!  It’s so good!

Sautéed String Bean – Veggie delight!  Loved it!  So crisp; So refreshing; So good!

Sesame Shrimp – Our attention turned to seafood, shellfish if you must.  Another spectacular dish from New Fu Run!  This one also gives you a break from the intense heat.  Add this one to your wish list as well.  I have said “So good!” already for each of the dishes.  Just keep adding to each dish that follows too.

Spicy Chicken Sichuan Style – Back to the heat, fire, and flames 🔥🔥🔥 again!  We were getting a nice cross-section sample of their menu.  And I can say that everything has been delicious, and this dish exemplifies this.  Whatever your craving, New Fu Run has all of the bases covered.

Crispy Duck (half) – YUMMY!  Loved this dish.  The skin was crispy to perfection, and the duck was cooked perfectly.  So moist.  So delicious.  Another wishlist item for you.

Cumin Lamb – Perhaps their signature dish.  It is prepared much differently than it was in their Flushing location.  But, you do have the bonus this time of not having to deal with the bone.  This dish could set your mouth literally on fire.  Everything else was just kindling!  If your taste buds are to the extreme, then this dish is for you.  Get past the fire, and the lamb is so good (there I go again!).

What I REALLY need now is Carvel Ice Cream!  But, alas, it wasn’t Wednesday (#IYKYK).  What I really got was a delicious banquet.  A feast for the beast that I am.  I think I can safely say that, on behalf of all who were lucky enough to be there that night, everyone loved New Fu Run!

Have you been there?  What did you think?  Post a comment below.  If you haven’t, go check it out!  Tell them we sent you!

Humbly submitted for your consumption,
