It was such a joy to see all of my friends again the other night, when we convened for the first time in far too long for dinner at Lucky Dumplings in Great Neck, NY.  I had gotten takeout from Lucky Dumplings a few weeks prior, shortly after their Grand Opening, and was so impressed that I implored my friends to join me for a formal Chinese Quest review!  I was anxious to hear what they thought, as the last few restaurants we visited had been a little disappointing.  Would history repeat itself?  Or were we going to get LUCKY tonight?

Fried Soup Dumplings? Yes, please! I heard about them. I was intrigued, so I sought. I was on my own personal Quest to find them. And, I did! In the food court of the New World Mall in downtown Flushing, NY. Go down the escalator to the Food Court, walk forward, and on the right side, the next to the last stall, you'll find Stall #30, Chinese Korean Dumplings and Noodles 中韓面食. Have you tried them? Here? I've been waiting over two years for Ugly Dumpling to open up in the Lake Success Shopping Center in Lake Success, NY. There are other locations on Long Island, and over 20 locations around the country. It was a matter of time before they opened, wasn't it? Hmmm... So, when the opportunity came to try their location in the Bronx, NY, I jumped on it. Was it worth the wait (well, I'm still waiting for their Northwest Nassau County, NY location to open), and was it worth the drive and tolls, not to mention traffic? Hmm? Yet another authentic Chinese restaurant has opened in Great Neck!  How exciting!!  Wokobowl, Modern Chinese bowls, opened a few months ago at 69 Middle Neck Rd, Great Neck Plaza, NY 11021, and I have been yearning for so long to try it!  And I finally got my wish the other day.  They have a few tables, but I would classify this as a mostly takeout Chinese restaurant. The Chinese Quest crossed the border and tried a relatively new Thai Restaurant in Great Neck called JaydSiri Thai Bistro. A few months ago, I got to enjoy my birthday with my son, two friends, a horse, and of course, Chinese Food! On the way home from Monticello Raceway, we stopped at O Mandarin, which is located in the Dalewood I II & III Shopping Center at 361 N Central Ave, Hartsdale, NY 10530. O Mandarin in Hartsdale, NY is the sister restaurant to O Mandarin in Hicksville, NY, which we reviewed a few years ago, so I was looking forward to checking out the O Riginal (see what I did there?) Are you looking for a nice upscale Chinese restaurant in the Flushing, NY area? May we recommend JUQI? Well, we ARE going to do just that! JUQI is located in the Tangram Mall, two blocks south of Roosevelt Ave., between College Point Boulevard and Prince Street. There are some interesting stores in the mall you might want to check out while you are there.

Last week, a new Chinese restaurant, Lucky Dumplings, opened in Great Neck, NY.  They are located at 19 Northern Blvd, Great Neck, NY 11021, in the former location of Coco's Palace.  The restaurant is directly across Northern Blvd. from Moonstone Modern Asian Cuisine & Bar.  Between the grand opening of Lucky Dumplings and the closing of Coco's Palace, Mochinut Donut occupied the space.  But they didn't last long, and the spot remained vacant for a few years.  I was happy to see it reopen as a Chinese restaurant again.  I couldn't wait to check it out. So, I did!

It's my new favorite dish! Pan Fried Pork and Vegetable Wontons from Shanghai You Garden in downtown Flushing, NY. Just thinking about that dish now, I'm salivating. Try them. Now! Call ahead though. Parking is a pain, and it takes 15 minutes to prepare the dish. It's time well spent!
