Happy Mother’s Day – Chinese Quest Style

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mother’s… and here’s OUR gift to all of YOU who are scrambling to figure out where to take your Mother for her day.  You know; We know; ALL the fancy schmancy restaurants are already booked solid for the day and/or are outrageously priced just because it’s Mother’s Day.  Now we’re not saying that your Mom doesn’t deserve a special day.  Heck, she deserves a special day EVERY day.  But, we’re here to help you out.

What does Mom really want?

a) Not to have to cook

b) Her family around her

c) A nice meal where she can spend time with family, not feel rushed, and actually be able to hear everyone at the table.

So this year, The Chinese Quest is going to help you out with three dining recommendations for you to help her celebrate her day.  These aren’t your typical fancy Chinese restaurants.  These are three SOLID Chinese recommendations where you WILL enjoy a great meal at a great price.

From East to West:

Suffolk County

“Golden Dynasty”, St. James, New York

Golden-Dynasty-St-JamesRecently it was completely renovated, and renamed from Lotus East.  Same great owners, same great food, now served up in a modern looking Chinese Restaurant that is still attracting all the local residents from far and wide.  If the clientele is any indication, this renovation was a smash.  I was very impressed with Sizzling War Bar, which reminded me of sizzling fajitas.  The aroma was off the hook!  Also the Singapore Style Mei  Fun with Shrimp, which was served with succulent jumbo shrimp and had a real nice kick to it.  To read our complete review, click here.

Also recommended, in this genre, in Suffolk County is Red Tiger Dumpling House in Stony Brook, though it might be a little on the smaller side to accommodate a larger family.

Nassau County

“The Orient”, Bethpage, New York

The-Orient-BethpageThe Orient Chinese Restaurant was the very first restaurant that The Chinese Quest ever reviewed, and it left a very lasting impression on our palates.  The decor is nice, having been completely redone after our visit.  Mom will like it there.  You’ll like it there.  And you will love us for recommending their House Special Wonton Soup, which is basically a meal in and of itself.  You can read our complete review here.

Other very noteworthy Chinese restaurants in Nassau County that we whole hardheartedly recommend (again keeping with the theme of this article) are “Chef Wang” in New Hyde Park, and “Green Leaf” in Port Washington.

Queens County

“Shanghai Cuisine 33”, Flushing, New York

Shanghai-Cuisine-33-Flushing-NYFrom our most recent Quest we discovered Shanghai Cuisine 33.  You’ll enjoy the fact that it’s not in the maddening crowd that is Downtown Flushing.  You’ll enjoy plentiful off street parking.  And you’ll totally enjoy everything that’s on the menu here.  If we may suggest, make sure that order the Chilean Sea Bass on Zucchini Topped with Scallions.  Start your meal off with the Wuxi Spareribs, and you’re on your way to a most splendid Mother’s Day Celebration.  To read our complete review, click here.

A good alternative Chinese restaurant in the same vicinity is “Imperial Taiwanese Gourmet” in Flushing, NY.  Which is almost directly across the street.

  1. Well, if this were an actual option, I’d go with “The Oriental” 🙂
