Recently, a new Chinese restaurant opened up on Main Street in downtown Flushing. Kings Kitchen, located at 40-12 Main Street, Flushing, NY 11354, is a sparkling new restaurant located a few doors down from McDonald’s and across the street from the New World Mall. That street looks a little drab, and Kings Kitchen is a step in the right direction to sprucing it up.
It was late in the evening, and the restaurant was about to close. I was told that during the day, and especially at dinner time, the restaurant is packed. It’s got a beautiful interior, and slippery floors (perhaps I wasn’t wearing the right shoes, but I would caution you as you walk through it). In the front is a take-out area. One of the front windows is adorned by the requisite Peking Ducks, which glisten from the street lamps.
…
Housemade Soup Dumplings – I was a little confused because they weren’t served with a spoon or bowl, and no tongs to lift them out of the steamer. I asked for the soup and bowl, which were brought, but not the tongs. The soup was quite hot, but after letting it cool for a bit, it was most delicious, and the rest of the dumpling was divine.
Special Combon Rice Claypot with:
- Eel
- Preserved Pork
- Preserved Duck
This was a first for me. The clay pot is HOT. I mean, really hot. Like sizzling hot! 🔥🔥🔥 The contents are to be stirred up. When water is added, it sizzles, and I guess completes the cooking. It surprised me just how good this dish (the food, not the pot) was. The preserved duck(?) tasted like bacon. I want to come back and try some of the other clay pot dishes.
Would I bring the boys back for a full-on Chinese Quest? Let’s see what they say after reading this.
