As the calendar turns to December, and we are in the midst of the Holiday season, it’s a good time for reflection. This past weekend was Thanksgiving. I have so much to be thankful for. And as December brings lots of family celebrations, regardless of what holiday’s one celebrates, thoughts turn to presents, giving and receiving; and sadly, the commercialization of the holidays. Let us not forget what this time of season really is for. Let us not forget all that we are thankful for now, and every day.
If we can all adopt an attitude of gratitude for everything that we have in our lives, we will attract even more good things in to our lives. Let us not dwell on the negatives. Let us not dwell on what we don’t have. For when one doesn’t appreciate everything that we do have, just as surely as the sun will rise each morning and set each night, the things we take for granted, may one day no longer be with us. if we don’t time the time each day to acknowledge them and appreciate all that we do have.
Every day I remind myself I am grateful for:
My friends – Friends are priceless. Good friends are always there for you. They’ve got your back. They bring you up when you’re feeling down. One can never have enough good friends. I appreciate each and every one of you. More than you might know! And if you didn’t know it, perhaps now you do. At least a little bit. And to all my friends, “Don’t let the Turkey’s get you down!”
My son – He is truly a blessing and a gift. I am so lucky and grateful to have you in my life. I can’t imagine my life without you. Every day I learn from you and enjoy watching you grow. I’m so proud of the way you are. You’ve never complained. You’re so well mannered, respectful of everyone, sweet, kind, caring, affectionate, FUNNY, and so much more! A true joy.
My health – I’m grateful I’m healthy and my son is healthy. There, but for the grace of g-d, I am healthy. I can see; I can talk (though some people may not think THAT such a blessing!); I can feel; I can smell (that’s usually a good thing! 😉 )
Where I live -I’m so grateful to have a roof over my head. And to live in a great area, where it’s safe, and the schools are top notch! I’m close to everything. And I live in the middle of some of the world’s greatest Chinese restaurants too!
My job – When so many are unemployed, I’m so grateful to have a job that allows me to take care of my needs and my son’s needs.
The freedom to express my thoughts – I’m so grateful that we live in a free country where we are (usually) safe from persecution and have the freedom of speech, and the freedom to express our religious and social beliefs. We have liberties that other people around the globe can’t even conceive of. We should appreciate this EVERY day, and EVERY day we have to love one another right now! Right NOW!
And to each and every one of you who has taken valuable time out of your lives to read the mere dribble that I write, you have enriched my life, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Happy Holidays to all, and to all I wish you find the happiness, peace, security, serenity, and love that you all so richly deserve.
What are YOU thankful for?
