Your Favorite Chinese Restaurant Just Closed!

Good Grief!

Your favorite Chinese Restaurant just closed!  What are you going to do?  Holy Smokes!!  This is a terrible blow.  Panic!  And more!!

good-griefOn The Chinese Quest, we’ve experienced with it with a few Chinese restaurants that have closed since we reviewed them.  We mourned the passing of “Wong’s Noodle House” in Mineola, The “Palace of Wong” in Rockville Centre, and most recently, “Hunan Dynasty” in Levittown.  We have had to recover.  And, so can you!

Know that everyone has their own unique experience with grief. No one else will grieve in exactly the same way you do. If you feel like you are reacting differently than other people, know that that is completely fine. Allow yourself to feel your own unique emotions and acknowledge your unique experience. There is no typical loss, which means there is not typical response to loss.

It is widely agreed that there are five phases to go through in the grieving process.  Each has to be completed in succession.  Sometimes you slip back to the prior step.  And that’s ok.  Don’t short cut the process.  Take your time.  And when the time is right, you’ll be ready to move on.

SARAH, is an acronym for “Shock”, “Anger”, “Rejection”, “Acceptance”, and “Hope”.  Those are the five phases to progress through on the grieving path to healing.

Let’s examine each one separately:

Shock

Oh my GOD! What am I going to do?  Where will I eat?  I am going to starve!!

Anger

This just REALLY sucks! I’m so pissed off.

Rejection

I knew I should have eaten there more often. It’s my fault they closed.  I let them down.  Their family is going to starve!  How will they send their kids to college now??  I let my neighbors down.  I let the neighborhood down.  OMG, I even let The Chinese Quest down!

Acceptance

Ok… it’s closed. I like other foods too.  I can change my habits.  My routine.  It will just take a little time.  But, I can do it.  It’s ok.  I’m fine.  And gosh darn it, I will move on from this.

Hope

I just realized that there are thousands of Chinese restaurants on Long Island… and even more in New York City (or, wherever YOU live). I can try NEW Chinese restaurants.  NEW foods!  New experiences!  There’s a whole world of Chinese restaurants out there for me to discover.  I can’t wait.  And, I know that The Chinese Quest is going to tell me all of the best Chinese restaurants to dine!

I can’t wait!  What a great opportunity!!   OH HAPPY DAYS!

Humbly submitted for your consumption,

Mee Magnum  (“Chop!  Chop!”)

  1. Hope is great! But…it still sucks when now there are no close by, sit down, Chinese restaurants that can take the place of those that closed.
I know there are still many other great places, but none as convenient as Palace of Wong!
