[Review] Take Out From Hunan Taste in Greenvale

Try Dining In!

HT LogoFour out of five Mee’s are at Mee V Stooga’s place of work… We’re brainstorming ideas for our quest… The wine is flowing, we just placed our order from Hunan Taste of Roslyn. Once the wine starts running low we will really start be brainstorming Mee’s.  It should be noted that Hunan Taste is NOT one of those take out restaurants, it is a fancy sit down restaurant.

Hunan Taste is located at 3 Northern Blvd. Greenvale, NY 11548

We ordered:

  • Steamed Dumplings
  • Spare Ribs
  • Shrimp and Scallops
  • Chu Chu Chicken
  • Eggplant and Garlic
  • Brown AND White Rice

So far we’re having some technical issues.  I was trying to hook up Mee V. Stoogas, but we’re having some problems.  I promise he will be on line soon!

Normally we limit our reviews to restaurants when we sit down properly and have time to digest not only the food, but the ambiance, the service, the whole experience.  But, we haven’t posted a review in a while, so we thought we owed this to you, our loyal minion of followers.

The food arrived a little bit after 8pm,a few minutes earlier than promised.  That was a good sign.  We were four hungry, and slightly tipsy Mee’s, so we really dug in to the food.  I was under time constraints as I had to leave by 8:30pm, so I really had to wolf the food down.  Just a note, no chop sticks were included in the bag, nor where there any wetnaps for cleaning up after the ribs.  Sometimes it’s those little things that can make or break a review.

The one items that we consistently get is spare ribs.  This gives us a standard to at least compare against other restaurants.  I must say I was impressed. They looked good, were meaty, and gosh darn it, they tasted good too!

However, it was all downhill from there.  Some of the comments made around the round table were:

  • Bland (ginger and black bean sauce lacked, umm, flavor and zing)
  • Tasteless (pretty much everything, but the ribs)
  • Dry (chicken)
  • So So (dumplings)

The wine however was good… or perhaps we just drank too much on an empty stomach.  I know I did.  Between that, the food, and rushing to where I had to get too I had quite the upset stomach when I arrived.  That’s never a good sign!  And whether that be strictly the food or not, it did leave a bad taste in my mouth.

And now for our empirical review:

HunanTaste

To leave a final bitter taste in our mouth, I would be remiss if I didn’t comment about the Fortune’s in our Fortune Cookies.  These aren’t fortunes!

  • “It takes all sorts to make up the world”
  • “A romantic evening awaits you tonight” (ok, technically that one IS a fortune… and Mee Yong Joo could NOT wait to leave and get back home to his wife!)
  • “Behavior is a mirror in which everyone shows his true image”
  • “A person with a determined heart frightens problems away”

So, there you have it!  Our second official review, and first take-out review (remember, Hunan Taste is considered a sit down fancy restaurant, NOT a take out joint).

  1. I must say, the morning after I felt pretty sick. I found the food very heavy and oily. This has never happened to me before. I feel like I should revise my reviews to a lower score. Very dissapointing. I always thought Hunan Taste was a relatively very good place, but it seems their food has gone downhill.
