The following guest article was submitted by Norman, a long time ardent follower of The Chinese Quest. Norman has sent us many an e-mail, and with a little encouragement, we finally got him to submit an article. We can only hope that this opens the flood gates for many more articles from him as his emails have always been chock full of great stories, anecdotes, and insights.

It was a good day to eat lunch out. A half Century ago we went monthly to an incarnation of a nice Chinese restaurant at 192-03 Union Turnpike, Fresh Meadows, NY 11366. Today we decided to try the reincarnation of a Chinese Fusion/Japanese restaurant the Red House Asian Fusion. The waiter did not speak English and in the absence of my Grandchild we could not do anything in Chinese.
From the lunch menu we ordered Shrimp with peanuts and Beef with broccoli (sic); the same item we had ordered at Chef Wang’s new place.
Mee Wii Fee decided that the food was better and even better than the White tablecloth high end Chinese restaurant in Manhasset.
Unfortunately there were only the two of us so that multiple dishes for sharing was not feasible. We Caucasions did outnumber the Chinese diners by one until the other couple left.
The food arrived hot (it was 2 PM lunch) and was delicious. Mee Wii Fee decided we should return in the near future.
The place:
RED HOUSE ASIAN FUSION
192 -03 Union Turnpike
Fresh Meadows, NY 11366
Norman, “not of good taste”
P.S. Does anyone remember the original name of the Chinese restaurant that reopened as the Red House Asian Fusion restaurant? [Edit from Norman: It was called Jade King]
P.P.S. Please let us know what you think of Asian fusion restaurants? Is it a realm that The Chinese Quest should venture in to?

I haven’t been into too many Asian Fusion restaurants. We used to have a great one in Reno, but it became a sushi restaurant and we haven’t been back. I really enjoyed the selection on the menu and the combination of foods you could order. It was like getting the best of many worlds. Don’t know if that’s how it is all the time, but it was there.
This Mee is not convinced that The Chinese Quest should stray from their roots of seeking out the best AUTHENTIC Chinese restaurant(s).
There’s a,take out on Chambers St in Manhattan with same name
I wonder if they’re same ownership.
Doubt it, China Red is,common
