A mainstay on the south shore of Long Island, Danny’s Chinese Kitchen gets stellar reviews on Google and Yelp! When the announcement came months ago that they were going to open a restaurant in Roslyn, NY, I was so excited. The Grand Opening couldn’t come soon enough. Sure enough, when the opening came on January 30, 2026, Long Island was slammed with a blizzard the likes of which we haven’t seen in years!
When the dust, err, mounds of snow, settled, I ventured to their new location at 147 Mineola Ave, Roslyn Heights, NY 11577. Ordering online couldn’t have been easier. They use an app called “Toast“. There is no fee to use the app or to place an order. There’s no parking out front. They have a small lot in the back, and you have to walk around to the front. There are only two tables in the restaurant. It’s really just for take-out, and not for a proper Chinese Quest. 
My order was ready when I arrived 15 minutes after placing it. It was neatly packaged along with all the necessary condiments, a plastic fork, and three fortune cookies! More about those later. 
BBQ Spareribs – The gold standard! Who says you can’t judge a restaurant on their ribs? I do! And these were solid gold! There’s certainly nothing “spare” about these ribs! I’ve never seen so much meat on spareribs. And the taste? Let’s just say, without exaggeration, these were the best ribs I have ever had. EVER! 
The combination platter comes with a plethora of choices: 
I chose:
Pork Fried Rice – The rice was kind of so-so, but better than average. Definitely not greasy, but lacking presence. It didn’t make a statement.
Egg Roll – The roll was good. Grade: A. There was so much food in this order that it filled me for two days! Would I order again from Danny’s Chinese Kitchen? ABSOLUTELY!! I can’t wait to try a few more of their dishes.
But don’t just take my word on it. When I reported back to my fellow Mee’s, Mee Gonzi Bao ordered takeout a few days later, and this is what he said:
We ordered in from Danny’s tonight. Had the spare ribs which were excellent. Had steamed dumplings and wonton soup. Both A+. Menu was traditional Chinese that I grew up with and certainly not fancy for the sake of being fancy. Only disappointed by soup noodles as they were the packaged ones instead of fresh like orient. Shrimp egg roll was great too
Lest I forget the fortune cookies. One order, THREE fortune cookies! Homerun! They were as fresh as can be, too!

To answer my age-old question, “Is it spareribs, or spare ribs?”, the answer my friends, is:
Both “spare ribs” and “spareribs” are acceptable terms for a cut of pork ribs. This cut comes from the lower portion of a pig, specifically the belly and breastbone, and is generally meatier and more succulent than baby back ribs.
If you’re hankering for some really good Cantonese Chinese food, run (drive) to Danny’s Chinese Kitchen! Tell them that The Chinese Quest sent you!
