I admit that I am weak. Sometimes, when you really need it, you hop on the express, the Panda Express, and wait in line! I had a craving the last few days, and rather than go to my standby Chinese take-out restaurant, Panda Express called. “Orange Chicken here. You there. Come here. Now!”. I drove into Jamaica (Pro Tip: Parking sucks! I got lucky and found a spot less than two blocks away. By the way, traffic sucked too. Eventually, I found myself here, at 160-02 Jamaica Ave, Jamaica, NY 11432
The line to the counter was just as bad and almost as long as the traffic jam on the Grand Central Parkway:
Mentally, I pre-ordered the Orange Chicken. This is the third time I’ve eaten at a Panda Express, and the second time I ordered Orange Chicken. There must be a LOT of sugar in the sauce as it’s quite addictive. I also ordered a bottle of Coca-Cola. You don’t see those around too often (and there was a little premium on the price. Tariffs? ;). Pro Tip #2: You do need a bottle opener, which I didn’t realize until I had settled down to eat, and I didn’t want to get up to find, lest I lose my seat. And my meal.
My Meal:
I will say this: the food in all of their locations is very consistent. Though my sample size of three may not be statistically significant. The chicken (see extremely close up below), though, was perhaps slightly drier than my experience. Though it was still delicious. The lo mein, not so much. Rather bland and perhaps a bit (over/under) cooked. The last time I had Panda Express was at an Interstate Service area. That was a nice change from other options.
The price, probably because it was in New York City, was higher than I remembered from past Panda Express Meals. And, you get a (rather bland fortune) Fortune Cookie for dessert. Still, a nice touch.
Was the “daring” advice in regards to my choice of restaurant?
What do you think of Panda Express?
