[RECIPE] Chinese Chicken – Sweet and Sour

Who says that opposites don’t attract?  Who says that opposites would cancel each other out?  You would think that they would.  Add something sweet to something that is sour, and you figure you would get something that is quite bland. But, as the following recipe clearly demonstrates, you would be wrong!  Don’t believe Mee?  Then try it out for yourself.  Enjoy!

Chinese Chicken – Sweet and Sour

Ingredients:

Serves 4-6

Marinade:

Sauce:

Directions:

  1. Place all the marinade ingredients in a bowl and stir.
  2. Add the chicken pieces and marinate the chicken for at least 20 minutes
  3. To prepare the sauce, heat the vinegar in a pan and add the sugar, light soy sauce and tomato ketchup.
  4. Stir to dissolve the sugar and then set aside.
  5. In a preheated wok, heat 3 tbsp of the oil and stir-fry the chicken until it starts to turn golden brown.
  6. Remove and set aside.
  7. In the clean wok, heat the remaining oil and cook the garlic and ginger root until fragrant.
  8. Add the vegetables and cook for 2 minutes.
  9. Add the chicken and cook for 1 minute.
  10. Finally, add the sauce and sesame oil, then stir in the scallions and serve.
