My New Favorite Dish!

What a bold headline!  This had better be really really good!  And it is.  It’s my new favorite go-to dish when I’m craving some on-the-go Chinese food.  We have reviewed Shanghai You Garden before (located at 135-33 40th Rd, Flushing, NY 11354).  For those that don’t know, click here.  Usually, I get the Peking Duck by the piece.  Two or three does the trick.  And, at $2.75 per piece, you can’t go wrong. However, it wasn’t that long ago when it was $1.50 per piece.  Oh well!

A few weeks ago, I was in the mood for something different.  Trying to read the menu while my mouth was drooling.  OMG, everything looks so good.  And, from experience, I can attest that it is!  I came across the following dish.  I had to wait 15 minutes for them to prepare it.  I was told to call ahead next time.  Their number is (718) 886-2286.  You can thank me later!

Pan Fried Pork and Vegetable Wonton

That picture does NOT do it justice.  Let’s break this dish down.

The Wrapper

PERFECTION!  They know how to do dumplings and wontons.  Their Pork Soup Dumplings are among the best we have ever had.  Ever.  I mean, really… EVER!  It’s just the right thickness, and it’s cooked, dare I use that word again?  Dare me!  It’s fried to perfection.  Just the right amount of crispiness.  That was the first impression. Then, you get to taste…

The Contents

The right balance of vegetables and pork.  Mouth watering.  Delicious!  I hope it’s nutritious too.  But I don’t care.  If liking this dish is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

Don’t you just want to take a bite into this?

Eight pieces are more than enough to fill you up.  Some may call this an appetizer.  If I were dining with someone else, then yes.  Sharing this as an appetizer makes sense, and you’ll have room to have an entree.  Or two.  Remember.  Sharing IS caring!  Check our reviews to see some of the dishes we recommend.

Parking can be a biotch in Flushing.  And the last time I went, I had to double-park.

There is a sister restaurant in Bayside.  Hmmm… much closer to me.  And parking shouldn’t be quite as bad.  When I get the munchies, I will try this dish there.  They also recently opened up a location in Westbury, NY.  I haven’t tried that spot yet.  So many choices now!

For now, I can only vouch for the fried wontons at the Flushing, NY location.  And, if I’m anywhere in the vicinity of downtown Flushing, I will call ahead and run in when I get there.

Humbly submitted for your consumption,
