We Want You…

To submit any old pictures you might have… or, memories that you have of eating Chinese food… or, original stories about Chinese restaurants… Anything that you think would be of interest to readers of The Chinese Quest that you would like to share.

We will publish all original, unpublished works at our discretion.  You would receive credit as the author and we will provide links back to your website or blog.

Our fascination with Chinese food and Chinese restaurants is historical in nature.  Not only the natural connection between Jews and Chinese food, but also both cultures cherish their heritage.  Their past.  And our wish to preserve that past.

So many great restaurants have come and gone on Long Island and New York City.  Buildings, landmarks, restaurants, and more, have all been torn down in the name of progress, or their business just ran their course (no pun intended!)

We want to bring back all those memories, preserve them, and immortalize them on our blog.  And we’re asking you to be a part of it!   We’re going to set up a gallery of these old memories.

One such article in this proposed series was submitted recently by Richard Brody, and it recalled his “Sweet Memories of The House of Won“.

If you’ve got any old photographs of Chinese Restaurants stored (and please make sure they’re yours, or you have permission to share them), please email the images, or scan in your photographs and email them to us at magnum@thechinesequest.com

Please include:

• 

  New York’s Chinatown in the 1960’s

  The name of the restaurant

• The address (or at least the name of the town)
• The date of the picture (or year… or a good approximation)
• If known, the years that the restaurant was in operation
• Any memories you have of dining there, or any other information you’d like to share
• Please include your name if you’d like it to be included under the picture in the Gallery

This gallery will be limited to only pictures of Chinese restaurants on Long Island and New York City that are no longer in operation.  It will be our “living” memorium to them.

If you don’t have a scanner and you can snail mail your pictures to us.  Just email us, and we’ll reply with our mailing address.  If you’d like your picture back, please enclose a self address stamped envelope.
