Where It All Began… But Not The Genesis You Thought!

So, how does dining at Pearl East in Manhasset, NY have anything to do with Genesis? Bear with me for a few minutes as I enlighten you.  This wasn’t where The Chinese Quest was born.  Pearl East wasn’t even the first Chinese restaurant that we reviewed (that honor goes to “The Orient” in Bethpage, NY).   So?  Tonight, was our annual Board Appreciation Dinner for the Roslyn Chamber of Commerce.  Following me yet?  I didn’t think so.  Do you have an idea of where I’m going with this?

Let me not keep you in suspense any longer.  The five members of The Chinese Quest, Mee Magnum, Mee Tsu Yan, Mee V. Stoogas, Mee Yong Joo, and Mee Gonzi Biao were all original Board Members of the Roslyn Chamber of Commerce.  So, a Board Appreciation Dinner you could say was the Big Bang, destiny if you will, was the seed that eventually spawned The Chinese Quest.

And now you know the rest of the story.

But, let’s talk about Pearl East, for this Chinese restaurant deserves special mention, as we have mentioned before, for a complete dining experience that can only be found on the Gold Coast of Long Island.  Pearl East is located at 1191 Northern Blvd, Manhasset, NY 11030.

The story, this dinner, can only be told in pictures.  They say a picture is worth 1000 words.  I say these pictures are easily worth 1000 calories each.  Fair warning:  The decorations and statues aren’t edible… but, everything that’s served on a platter certainly is.  And their presentation can only be described as artistic masterpieces.

First, let’s take a look at the inedible decorations.  The restaurant is adorned with Chinese works of art.  You can forgive yourself if you feel like you have walked in to a museum.

Pretty.  But, we came to eat!

The Appetizers

Soup and Spareribs.  The soup was delicious.  Not salty.  Two nice slices of pork were under the wontons.  The sparerib deserves special mention.  To me, Pearl East’s spareribs are some of the finest in the land.

Dim Sum – Just look at that presentation!  And the food was as delicious as it looked.  After all these appetizers, I was completely full!

The Entrees

You’re telling me there was more food?  Not only more… LOTS MORE!

The entrees included Chicken with Mixed Vegetables, Filet Mignon (a finer filet mignon you won’t find at any restaurant or Steak House), Chicken with Lemongrass, BBQ Jumbo Shrimp (more like Prawns… huge and delicious!). Spicy and Dry String Beans.  Not pictured were two different types of Fried Rice.  One with chicken, the other Young Chow Fried Rice.

Dessert

Did someone say dessert?  I couldn’t even finish the entree!  I will have a nice lunch tomorrow!  But, there’s always room for dessert!  Fresh Fruits and a Caramel Crunch Ice Cream that was totally out of this world!

Chopsticks

pearl-east-interior-statueWhen you’re looking for a really elegant Chinese meal, Pearl East should be at the top of your list.  And Kathy, the owner, will make sure that you have enough to eat.  Oh my gosh she will.  I wonder if she’s part Jewish!

Everyone left stuffed, sated, with smiles on their faces, and happiness in their bellies (yes, after that meal, some of us started to resemble Buddha!

Humbly submitted for your consumption,

Mee Magnum  (“Chop!  Chop!”)

  1. As a boy my parents took me to L.I. Chinese restaurants a lot…I always ordered turkey dinner because I thought I wouldn’t like Chinese style food…in one location the waiters would say “turkey dinner” when we walked in. Fast forward- today Chinese-style food is my favorite take-out…has been for many decades.

  2. I’ve been going here for years..❤️ the food!
