Happy Day at Moonstone Chinese Restaurant

[UPDATE:  Happy Hour’s at Moonstone have changed.  It’s now “Sad Days at Moonstone”]

There are Happy Hours.  And then there are Happy DAYS!  What is a Happy Day?  When Happy Hour runs the ENTIRE Day, SEVEN* days a week.  And such is what you will find at Moonstone Chinese Restaurant in Great Neck, NY!

What’s the asterisk(*) for?  Well, technically speaking, the Happy Day is offered “only” five days a week, from Sunday to Thursday.  On Friday and Saturday, you’ll have to settle for Happy HOURS from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

Happy Days or Happy DAZE?

So, what do you get?  Half priced drinks and half priced appetizers.  Did we mention that they have an EXTENSIVE wine collection (check it out below).  They also have the usual suspects of mixed drinks, including my favorite, Mai Tai’s.  And on this day, Sam, our able bodied and knowledgeable bar tender made us his special Mai Tai… and they were, umm, especially good!  Thank you Sam my man!

Seating for Happy Hour seems to be limited to the seating capacity at the bar.  We’ve been lucky the two times we have gone and we were able to snag the last seats.  Everyone we have met there seems very warm and friendly and eager to strike up a conversation.  As a result, I got tipped off on where to find THE best Mai Tai.  I won’t divulge it yet, at least not until I have tried and confirmed (or denounced) it.  For, it’s located in a Chinese restaurant that The Chinese Quest had panned in the past.  But, I promise to try, so stay tuned.

Lest you think that all you can get at Happy Day are drinks, they also have a special bar menu, and you can also order off the regular menu.  For a review of their food, please read our review of Moonstone.  As for what we tried last night, we ordered first the Lobster and Shrimp Fried Wonton’s.  Not bad.  Perhaps a little too creamy on the inside (mayonnaise?  I’m not sure, and forgot to ask).  We also had Spareribs.  YUM YUM YUM!  Did I mention they were oh so good?

When we went to Happy Hour last time we had Steamed Pork Dumplings, and Salt and Pepper Calamari.  The calamari was especially good!  I’m looking forward to trying the Duck Spring Rolls next time!

No matter what the day, and almost no matter what the time, you’re sure to have a Happy Time at Moonstone!

Humbly submitted for your consumption,

Mee Magnum  (“Chop!  Chop!”)
