Ming’s Chinese Buffet and Grill

Chinese food is available anywhere in the world… and in every state; every county; every city, and heck, in almost every strip mall across America!  We like to think that we have the best Chinese food in NY (outside of China, of course!).  But, what happens when you move out of New York??

The following guest article was submitted by Pat Smith, an ex-patriot Long Islander who has moved with her husband, Ken, to Tennessee.  You can take Long Island out of the girl, but you can’t take away her love of Chinese food!!

A Guest Chinese Restaurant Review

mings-buffet-grillOne of my favorite places to eat is Ming’s Chinese Buffet and Grill in McMinnville, Tn. They have one the largest selections of any buffet we have ever gone to. You cannot possibly sample everything they have to offer in one trip to this restaurant. You can start with the salad bar section or with the soups. In addition to the usual egg drop, wonton and hot and sour soups, there is at least one seafood or vegetable soup.

The Chinese restaurant is:

Sushi is available at the hibachi counter, and you certainly will want to make a trip there, at least for the grill. Choices there include meats or seafood, noodles and other items to be grilled.

mings-buffet-selectionsAlthough most familiar items are always available, I have noticed they do vary the selections somewhat so that there is always something new to try. Their selections of seafood are always tempting. They have even offered crayfish, which was very good, despite the fact that there is a lot of work to get just a little meat. On my most recent visit, they offered frog legs.

One complaint I have seen in reviews is that there isn’t a wide enough variety of vegetables. Again, the vegetables vary as any other dish, but the salad bar is always full, and offers Kimchi. Either steamed broccoli or green beans are available, and many dishes include vegetables. I have never felt shortchanged in the vegetable area.

I love the variety of chicken and pork dishes that are available.

Many Chinese buffets offer French fries and pizza, but who goes to a Chinese restaurant to get Americanized foods? Ming’s does offer dinner buns, with a Chinese flavor to them, as well as onion rings and pizza. I usually pass over these entrees for other selections. On my last visit however, I passed by the counter with the pizza. Looking at that pizza with all that delicious looking melted cheese…I just HAD to sample it…Who would have guessed! I was pleasantly surprised to find it was the best pizza I have had in this state. I would have even tried a second helping…but they were out. I guess everyone else knew just how good it was..

Deserts are also well worth waiting for. A nice variety of ice creams are available, as well as almond cookies, fruits, puddings, coconut cakes and custards.

mings-best-of-bestIf you are ever in McMinnville, Tennessee… why not give it a try? I guarantee you will NOT leave hungry. It’s all good, and the trays are replaced frequently so the food is not dried out. I am sure that is the reason they were voted Southern Standard’s Best of the Best Chinese Food in Warren County for 2015.

Though the Southern Standard’s “Best of the Best” awards, doesn’t stack up against a Questie, it’s still a prestigious honor to bestowed upon any establishment.  And Ming’s Restaurant won in the category of Chinese Food!
