[Guest Review] Norman’s Take on Northern Manor

The following guest article was submitted by Norman, an ardent long time follower of The Chinese Quest.  Norman has sent us many e-mails, and with a little encouragement, he’s now on a roll with his second guest article.  As a little background, we “met” Norman over a year ago when he started e-mailing us religiously with commentary on most of our articles.  He has relayed many interesting stories, but none more touching than when he told us about his beautiful wife, who he’s now been married to for over 55 years and how they were going to celebrate their 55th Anniversary by having dinner at Pearl East in Manhasset.  We so wanted to join them that evening, but alas it wasn’t in the stars.  We can only hope that we will get to celebrate their 56th wedding anniversary with them at a Chinese restaurant of their choosing courtesy of The Chinese Quest!

Aside from what follows THIS is the best Chinese restaurant we have eaten in in years. Very flavorful and we were late enough to see the staff sit down and enjoy their own food.

From Mee Too Full (aka Mee Low est ton Tot Em Pol):

It was a good day for a Chinese lunch. Today we chose to go to Canton. We haven’t been to Hong Kong in 4 decades, but Hong Kong has come to Queens. And did we enjoy the food.

It was the best Cantonese food we have had in the NY area. It is on Northern Blvd. and they call themselves Northern Manor [Editors Note:  The Chinese Quest posted their review of Northern Manor about a year ago], after the New York State Road in front of their nicely situated restaurant. It is almost walking distance from my house.

We opted for a 2PM lunch and when we arrived we were the only Caucasians there (about 20 guests); a very good sign. Since there are only two of us we ordered Hot and Sour Soup. Their’s was excellent! The soup was served with a porcelain spoon. Chopsticks were the only eating utensils.

Next we were served Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce and also Sweet and Sour Pork. White Rice on the side. Very adequate sized portions and very delicious. Not enough people to share 5 or 6 entrees.

Lunch (our dinner) came to $15 before tip. Very inexpensive and especially very good. This is to become our regular first choice for our Chinese ‘fix’ each week. The New Chinatown has moved to Queens, and Northern Manor is at 251-15 Northern Blvd, Little Neck, NY 11362, just near the end of the bus route from Main Street. And contiguous with Nassau County (Great Neck). They have a parking lot.

I served Mee Wi Fee plum wine when we got home.

We rate it 5 stars out of 5.

  1. I love this place, especially the dim sum that they have, it’s comparable to the restaurants in Chinatown.
