THIS ORCHID HAS WILTED!

A Faded Flower

Our latest adventure has taken us to Orchid Restaurant located at 730 Franklin Ave. in Garden City. What a disappointment!! It is very hard to believe, but this restaurant came highly recommended.

The place is nicely decorated, it kind of looks like a high end Chinese bro….. By the look of the place, you would think the food would be good. The waiters were nice, but without personality. We asked them to give us an authentic Chinese dinner, but their choices were more Americanized than Arnold Schwarznegger.

First up was our “Go To” staple-Spare Ribs. The ribs were actually very tasty. Not fatty, could have been larger, but not bad at all. I was getting excited for the meal. The dinner completely fell apart after the ribs.

The second appetizer was pork  dumplings. They were fat and doughy with skin like armadillo. Our entrees included Spicy Chicken, which by the way wasn’t very spicy, but was tasteless! The Orange Beef was the most flavorful dish of the night. Next up was the Seafood Nest. They murdered this dish. We should have called in a homicide detective. Absolutely tasteless with each piece of fish smothered in corn starch. Mee Yong Joo showed some bravado by sampling the nest, which he thought was oily and old. The entree was served with House Fried Rice. The only problem is that the sponge in my sink has more taste.

And to think, all this for $165.00 (this amount did include drinks)

In conclusion, Zagats rated this restaurant in the top 5 Chinese restaurants on Long Island. If that is the case (which I do not believe) than it is time to move to Florida!
